Intercity HST – Stunning new N Gauge model

Continuing the theme of buying models that don’t really fit with my layout, I have recently purchased the stunning Dapol Intercity 125 HST in the beautiful Swallow livery. This came from Model Railways Direct and I ended up getting additional carriages from Rails of Sheffield.

Loughtbury is supposed to based in the South of England, and based roughly around the 2000’s however I simply had to have one of these trains. It might be that my next layout is better built to cater for these, but for now I have a HST whizzing around and it looks great!

To put things into perspective, I tried to create a full size train but ended up sticking to 6 carriages and the 2 power cars. This now means it only just fits in Loughtbury station and doesn’t really fit in the fiddle yard. I don’t really care though, this is one of my all time favourite trains and the livery brings me back to holidays as a child. In the real world the HST is slowly going out of service and several “celebrity” sets have been run with old-school liveries such as BR Blue and the Swallow colours, so maybe…. just maybe I can pretend it’s a modern day heritage rail tour?!
