Loughtbury Cricket Club

Loughtbury Cricket Club

Not only does a town or village need a number of train stations, sidings and pubs, it also needs a cricket club!

Another birthday present was a fantastic set of N Gauge cricketers and club pavilion. These amazing little models needed a place to play and thankfully I had just the place for them. All cricket pitches are vaguely round and I had planned to build a tunnel to hide the returning curve of the 2 mainline tracks. This gave me a perfect gap to place a rather small village cricket green.

The hills around the back of the layout are an attempt to look like the South Downs which are a stone’s throw away. Many villages at the foot of the hills have cricket grounds but sadly don’t have quite the same amount of trains running past as Loughtbury.

Not only did the pitch fit but I realised one of the pub signs in the Metcalfe model I had just completed was “The Cricketers”. Perfect!

The cricketers are from Langley Models
